The public math
Total attributable period cost = hardware allocation + software + support + administration labor + model/data preparation labor + primary task labor + retry handling labor + review/correction labor + all API usage charges + energy + other nonoverlapping costs.
Cost per accepted task = complete attributable period cost ÷ unique accepted tasks.
- Hardware allocation = (purchase cost − residual value) ÷ useful life in months × shared months × workload share. Share ranges from zero to one; the shared period must not exceed useful life.
- Each labor cost = mutually exclusive person-hours × that category’s rate. Review includes correction time. Explain whether rates value internal time or represent cash expense.
- API cost is the attributable period bill or estimate including every primary and retry token charge once. Retry handling adds only distinct human labor, not a second API bill.
- Software, support and other amounts are already attributable to the workload and period. Energy = attributable kilowatt-hours × unit cost. Apply the hardware share only to hardware.
- Acceptance rate = unique accepted tasks ÷ unique attempted tasks. Each original task counts once across retries. Zero accepted tasks makes per-accepted-task cost undefined, not zero.
- A blank remains unknown. Every included cost needs all operands. A not-applicable decision resolves a bucket only with your explanation. Complete task, criteria, currency and period before comparing totals.
A complete input set makes arithmetic comparable; observed product performance still requires actual attempts, reviewed outputs and retained evidence.
